Part 3: An Introduction to DBT
​Individual Treatment 

 Program Description:
 
This one day workshop is designed to be an introduction to Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and its application to treating individuals diagnosed with borderline personality disorder as well as various other diagnoses.  Participants will become familiar with the theoretical foundations that underlie DBT treatment.  In addition, the stages of DBT treatment and the hierarchy of treatment targets designed to structure therapy with individual clients will be discussed.  Several DBT individual treatment strategies will be taught and practiced, including diary cards, validation, behavior chain analysis, and solution analysis.  Through the use of clinical case examples, video-taped client-therapist interactions, and experiential exercises participants will become familiar with the techniques and strategies used in DBT individual therapy. While part 1 and/or 2 are not a necessary prerequisite, it is recommended that participants attending this workshop have some familiarity with DBT skills.   Upon completion of the program participants will earn 6 CEUs.

Workshop Objectives:

Upon completion of the workshop, participants will:
 
(1) Be able to identify the five                   stages of DBT treatment

(2) Be able to identify the four                    modes of  treatment in DBT

(3) Be familiar with the DBT                       primary treatment targets

(4) Be able to conduct a behavior            chain analyses

(5) Be familiar with how to                           conduct a solution analysis

(6) Be familiar with DBT                               acceptance strategies,                             including the six levels of                       validation

(7) Be familiar with the use of                   diary cards in DBT treatment

(8) Be familiar with the principles           & foundations that underlie                 DBT treatment,  including                      differentiating operant                          behavior from respondent                    behavior.

(9) Be familiar with dialectics and            its role in DBT treatment

(10) Be familiar with the biosocial              model
